Reformation anniversary: Networking in Wittenberg

October 30, 2014

Wittenberg (epd). In Wittenberg, an international series of events is being planned on topics relating to "civil society and the Reformation anniversary". The city administration announced on Thursday that the first meeting from 2 to 4 November will be attended by representatives from Orland in Norway, Turku in Finland, Haderslev in Denmark and Emden in the Netherlands. The conference is the curtain-raiser for a joint sharing of ideas and ongoing networking between local authorities and churches from different countries.
The conference includes a workshop showcasing church and state activities on the 500th anniversary of the Reformation in 2017. In addition, there will be lectures e.g. on the history of the Reformation in northern Europe. Information will also be given on the world exhibition planned for 2017 in Wittenberg. The guests will be welcomed by Lord Mayor Eckhard Naumann (SPD) and the deputy director of the Protestant Wittenberg foundation, Jan von Campenhausen. He is also the director of the "Luther 2017" office of the Evangelical Church in Germany.
